Naran - The second battle of Platea:
Hellenes (Spartans, Thebans and Heroes of Parnassus) with an Allied Command of Centaurs against Orcs.
First Era - year 10479 - ninth month.
To avenge the affront suffered with the burning defeats inflicted on his army and his fleet by the allied armies of the hellenic polis, the Persian emperor Memnon hires an army of Orcs and sends it to devastate the lands of the irreducible Hellenes enemies.
The Orc Army, transported on ships made available by the Persians, after having landed on the east coast of the Hellenic peninsula, is forced to march towards the city; of Athena to raze it on the ground, as it is been commissioned. In making the journey, the Greenskins destroy all the villages they encounter, horribly killing all the unfortunates who ended up in their clutches, many of them, most of them; unlucky, become food for the invaders.
To the rescue of the city of Temistocle re-enter the armies of the other polis, with the Sparthans at the head of King Leonidas, the winner of Thermopylae, he who with only 300 Hoplites succeeded to stop the advance of the entire Persian army led personally by Memnon.
By a strange twist of fate, the contact between the two armies occurs again on the platea of Platea, where just a month before it is the great clash occurred in which the army of Memnon, led by the satrap Mardonius, was annihilated by the Hellenic alliance under the orders of Leonidas. The same Leonidas, of his hand, cuts the head of the Persian Warchief. This time, Leonida has to face a new and perhaps more fearsome adversary: the Orcs of the Orc Warchief Ur-Zhug-Ghalo.
Alongside Leonidas, some of the most important are also noticed; valiant Heroes of the Parnassus, come to the Hellenic camp led by Heracles, with whom there are his mighty Heraclid warriors.
By now the time is now; come, soon the two armies will clash against each other. From the orc camp already the rabid howls of the great wolves and the shrill screams of their equally ferocious knights are heard rising to heaven. What is about to arise will be; a day of blood, a day of heroes, save the Orcs do not prefer, as their custom, to attack when it is still dark. The lookouts of the hellenic camp are on the alert, ready to give the warning signal to the first, least sign of suspicious movements that may have glimpsed in the enemy camp.
Tamburi nella notte……
We played with armies of 2600 points plus 1000 points of Ars Arcana.
The army of the Hellenes was formed by troops of Sparta and Thebes, under the orders of General Leonidas (Heroic Warchief). The Thebans were under the command of their General. A third command was formed by the Centaurs (Creatures of Arcadia). Two Heroes of the Parnassus had joined the Hellenes: Heracles and Bellerophon and the heroine of Mount Ida Axena. Heracles had in its wake a unit of its Heraclid Warriors, as well as Bellerophon, joined to a unit of Knights on Pegasus. Axena was fighting on a war chariot pulled by 2 Centauresses.
The Orc army deployed a Jiaggherenut and a Two-headed Half Giant Orc, as well as a strong Unit mounted on giant wolves. The Orc Warcgief (Heroic Warchief) was aboard an heavy war chariot.
Since he does not have any units with missile weapons on his orders, Leonidas orders his Battle Leaders to give their troops the order to attack and the same thing he does for his Command. The Hellenic army advances en masse to the enemy, surprising the Orcs that they are usually attacking. The Orc Archers are taken away shooting distance and make their launches, but they have no effect, because of the heavy armor of the opponents and the poor quality of shooters. After the salvation of his Units of Archers, even the Orc Warchief gives the order to attack and so, already in the first rounds the two sides they get to the contact in body to body combat. The battle rages for the remaining turns. Since the last hour of the night has begun, the Hellenes and Centaurs have benefited from the light of day in the next six turns. As the shifts follow each other, losses for both armies gradually become heavier. In the end only a few survivors will remain in the field, so much so that this battle can be defined as:
"the massacre of Platea".
Precisely in the final turns, when darkness fell again, the battle was decided by the Orc Jaggherecut, who managed to kill Heracles, as well as the death of the Theban general, who fell with his Hoplites to whom he had joined to lead them to the assault. His death caused the skidding of the few remaining troops under his orders, but including Bellerophon and the Knights on Pegasus who were part of the Theban Command.
On the other hand, on the other side of the battlefield, Axena failed to kill the Orc Warchief on chariot, though she inflicted 4 wounds on him, that is, the total of those that he has at his disposal. If the battle had lasted another turn, perhaps Axena could have eliminated him and this event could have tipped the balance in favor of the Hellenes.
On both fronts, the Priests, assisted by the Clerics, did their utmost to invoke their Gods in order to overcome their failed Save Throws to their Heroes, Champions and Cavalrymen. In the Hellenic army the 3 Clerics have died, while in the Orcish one, in addition to the 3 Clerics, a Priest has also died.
The battle is therefore terminated, after the 12 Turns set by the Bookrule, with the victory of the Orcs for 725 points (difference in terms of points between losses suffered and inflicted).
